Nigeria’s Pillar of Sports, Chief Donatus Agu-Ejidike (JP), has congratulated the Super Eagles of Nigeria and their technical crew on their successful defence of the Unity Cup title following an impressive 3-0 victory over Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz in the final played in London on Saturday.

Chief Agu-Ejidike described the triumph as a welcome boost for Nigerian football and a source of pride for millions of football-loving Nigerians, noting that the team’s performance throughout the tournament demonstrated resilience, discipline, and a renewed sense of purpose.

The former President of the Karate Federation of Nigeria (KFN) particularly commended the coaching crew for boldly introducing new players into the national team setup, stating that the impressive performances of the debutants have further strengthened confidence in the future of the Super Eagles and the depth of talent available to Nigerian football.

According to him, while the disappointment of missing out on the 2026 FIFA World Cup remains painful, the Unity Cup success should serve as a foundation for a comprehensive rebuilding process aimed at restoring Nigeria’s place among the elite footballing nations of the world.

Chief Agu-Ejidike urged the players and officials not to be carried away by the victory but to remain focused, hardworking, and committed to the task ahead, stressing that sustained progress, consistency, and proper planning will be required to reposition the Super Eagles for future continental and global competitions.

He expressed optimism that with the emerging talents showcased during the tournament, combined with the experience of established stars and the support of football stakeholders, Nigeria will soon return to the path of glory and once again become a dominant force in international football.

The respected Nnewi-born sports philanthropist also called on Nigerians to continue supporting the national team through both successes and setbacks, emphasizing that football remains a powerful tool for national unity, inspiration, and global recognition.

Chief Agu-Ejidike also extended warm congratulations to Rangers International Football Club of Enugu for emerging champions of the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League season. He described the achievement as a testament to the club’s rich tradition, resilience, sound management and commitment to excellence. He also reserves some words of commendation for the Executive Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, for demonstrating his vision and love for Sports development, through his unwavering support for the Flying Antelopes.

The Patron of the Nigerian Football Supporters Club (NFSC) commended the players, coaching staff, management and supporters of the Enugu-based club for their collective efforts, expressing confidence that Rangers would be worthy ambassadors of Nigerian football in continental competitions.

He further called on football administrators, corporate organisations and other stakeholders to continue investing in grassroots and elite football development, insisting that sustainable growth remains the surest pathway to restoring Nigeria’s football glory on both the continental and global stages.
